2024年1月16日 世界保健機関（WHO：World Health Organization）は、同日付で公表の「WHO global report on trends in prevalence of tobacco use 2000–2030（たばこ動向報告書）」（全144頁、上図はその表紙）を取り上げたニュース「Tobacco use declines despite tobacco industry efforts to jeopardize progress」の中で、2024年世界禁煙デーのテーマを「Protecting children from tobacco industry interference（たばこ産業の干渉から子どもたちを守る）」とする予定であると発表。
